How Much Are My Timeshare Points Worth in 2026?

Most owners are shocked when they get the real number. The developer sold the program at the use value; the rental market pays the rental value, and the gap is usually 5-10x. Here are the actual cash ranges per major program, by typical allocation size.

Cash payouts by program (2026 ranges)

Ranges for the seven TRP-supported programs are based on what Timeshare Rental Pros currently pays per use year, averaged across season mix and resort tier. Westgate and Vistana figures reflect secondary rental-market rates; TRP does not currently buy from those programs. Your specific offer depends on use-year remaining, expiration date, and current demand at your home resort. For broader industry and resale-market context, the American Resort Development Association publishes timeshare market data.

Why Marriott points are worth 30-70x more than Wyndham

The single biggest variable is how many points it takes to book a comparable resort week. Marriott Vacation Club's Destination Points program charges 1,500-7,000 points for a week at a premium property. Club Wyndham's point chart charges 200,000-400,000 for an equivalent week. Per-point rental rates reflect that: Marriott points are denser, so each one is worth more cash.

That's why the Wyndham "200,000-point" allocation and the Marriott "5,000-point" allocation both sit in roughly the same cash range — they buy similar weeks of vacation. The point counts just look wildly different.

What affects your specific offer

  • Use-year remaining. Points expiring in 3 months are worth less than points with 18 months of runway, because the buyer has fewer booking windows to monetize them.
  • Banking + borrowing flexibility. Programs with credit-pool extensions (Wyndham, Marriott) earn slightly more because the buyer has more booking windows.
  • Your account's booking-discount status. Wyndham VIP, Hilton Elite, Marriott Chairman's Club — these let the buyer book at a discount through your account, which can lift the per-point rate 10-20%.
  • Time of year you sell. Offers in October-February (booking-window for spring break + summer) are stronger than offers in August.

Common mistakes

Two patterns we see repeatedly with timeshare owners:

  • Letting points expire. Most programs forfeit unused points at the end of the use year. If you're not going to use them yourself, even a low-end cash offer is infinitely better than $0.
  • Confusing points with the contract. Selling your annual points doesn't cancel the contract or end maintenance fees. If you want OUT, see our piece on selling points vs cancelling the contract.

FAQ

Why are my points worth so much less than the developer said?
Developer sales presentations price points at the "use value" — what a hotel would charge cash for an equivalent room. The secondary rental market prices them at the rental value — what an outside renter will actually pay you for the booking. Those two numbers are 5-10x apart for most programs. Hilton and Marriott points hold value better because their points charts are tighter and their resorts are in genuine high-demand vacation markets.
Does the per-point payout vary by season?
Yes. Points booked into peak weeks (Christmas, spring break, July 4th) at desirable resorts fetch much more rental revenue than the same points used for a Tuesday in early February. TRP's offer is averaged across your annual allocation, but if you have flexibility on when to deposit, peak-season points earn meaningfully more.
Is selling 1 year of points the same as selling my whole contract?
No — and this matters. Selling your annual points is a one-time cash transaction for that use year. You keep the contract (and the annual maintenance fee). Selling the contract itself is a much harder market — most points-based contracts on the resale market sell for $0-$2,500 regardless of point count, because the supply far exceeds demand.
What about VIP status — does that change my payout?
For most programs, no — the cash buyer doesn't inherit your VIP status. Where it does matter: Club Wyndham VIP tiers (Silver+) give booking discounts within 60 days of check-in that the buyer can use through your account, which can lift the per-point rate. If you have VIP status, mention it when getting an offer.
